Dear Reader,

The topic of research in this project is National Basketball Association Technical Fouls. Technical Fouls are fouls given to a player who has broken the guidelines for the game of basketball. Technical Fouls are not a good thing for the player being called for one. First, a player on the other team gets to shoot 1 or 2 free-throws (depending on how serious the circumstances were) and will get the ball back. In a close game, these kinds of fouls can kill a team and stop them from getting the win.

These fouls can be viewed both ways. In some aspects these fouls are necessary to keep the game from getting out of control. At other times, referees should not be able to have complete control in giving a Technical. For example, LeBron James, Miami Heat player, was issued a technical foul because after he was given a personal foul, he quickly ran a little off the court because he was mad at himself. This is completely unfair.

What is great about this topic is that it can build knowledge into NBA rules, the game itself, and much more to learn about basketball. This is what I learned from studying this topic during the multi genre research project. At first, all I knew was that a Technical was given to someone who broke the rules, and the other team shot free throws. After just 1 week of research, I learned many more careful details about what happens after a Technical. For example, when someone is shooting a technical foul free-throw, all other players must stand behind the 3 point line. These little details can help a reader become an expert.

When trying to find the research, I simply typed in "Nba Technical" because I wasn't an expert on it. I found many wonderful websites that gave examples of a technical, and how over the years the National Basketball Association has expanded their rules on a technical. Anyone who has an interest in basketball, don't be lazy and simply do "basketball" for a topic. A technical is thinking outside the box because it narrows down basketball. This was a great topic to choose and I am an expert on this topic now.

Overall, this was a fairly easy topic to research. My interest sparked simply by watching an NBA game. I always wanted to know why a player got to shoot a free-throw all by themselves and the team got the ball back. The research was long and sometimes tedious, but in the end the knowledge was gained, and nothing can be better than that. This was a very fun and creative project that there was bad because we gained knowledge about a topic.
